Some people just love challenges. African Hip Life sensation Kcasty Luu is
one of those people. From the time his hit single "Fillomina" hit the
airwaves or the time he walked unnoticed through a crowded arena before a
concert, only to be escorted on the way out because of the mob of newly-won
fans. As a kid, his friends nicknamed him "Kcasty Luu," named after the
Ghanaian soccer star "Kasty" because he could sing so effortlessly as Kasty
could play soccer. Music was his passion, even as a boy growing up in the
West African nation Ghana. Kcasty Luu's favorite challenge, however, is one
he poses to himself every time he steps on stage or whenever he enters the
studio and draws on his many music-making abilities. Kcasty Luu remains a
master of many styles - from hip life to pop/R&B - making it a happy hunting
ground for different kinds of music fan. "I want to show many different
sides of my musical personality" says Kcasty Luu. Kcasty Luu was born Yeboah
Afoakwah on August 1, 1985 in Kumasi Ghana. Growing up in Ghana like his
peers, he became infatuated with hip life music at a very young age.
Listening to home grown artists like Obrafuo, Nwata, Nana Kwame and Papa
Shee in the early 1980s, Kcasty Luu began to challenge himself in the art of
song writing and live performances. Kcasty Luu's music is entertaining and
soulful, and he has a voice that is soon not forgotten. He is popularly
referred to as the new soul of Ghana and his music is the new toast of hip
life music in Canada and West Africa.
Inspired and influenced by many Ghanaian musical greats, Kcasty Luu began
affiliating himself with a Ghanaian artist known as Rebel King in the mid
1990s, haven been featured as a dancer in one of Rebel King's music videos.
Rebel King became his idol, as he would follow him on countless occasions to
the studio in order to perfect his song writing ability. Today, the many
fans who are now accustomed to Kcasty Luu's music like "Fillomina" "Boko
Boko" and "Sekina" can now attest to the musical prowess of this new hip
life sensation. Kcasty Luu moved to Canada in 1999 to further pursue his
music career. Within a year of living in Canada, he released his first
single titled "Heneme" featuring Dr. Moh. He was to later release other
tracks namely "Mr. Otua" and "Abenaa Se Waa" the following year. Kcasty Luu
is an entertainer and a virtuoso on stage who has mastered his stagecraft.
His stage performances are so flawless to the admiration of those who have
watched him perform live. Haven performed at several concerts including
KK Fosu & Batman showcase (2005), Tik Tak (2004), Papa Shee (2004) Miss
Ghana 2004, Obrafuo (2003), and Anasekrom (200) just to mention a few. His
ever presence at major African concerts and events in Canada, has made him
omnipresent in the African community music scene.
When not in the studio recording new songs, Kcasty Luu devotes his time in
his home based studio making beats and writing new songs. "I just make music
all day and all night, it doesn't even feel like work. I'd rather do this
than anything else."
Over the months ahead, Kcasty Luu plans to hit the road in Africa touring,
which will give the artist a chance to get reacquainted with his fans, and
make some new ones as well. "I just want to continue making an impression on
people," he says. At the moment, Kcasty Luu is recording new songs and
working on releasing his album under OddRuff Inc. his new record label. A
new enigma has emerged in African hip life music and his name is Kcasty Luu.
According to Kcasty Luu, "the year 2008 and beyond holds endless
possibilities for me, and I'm ready roll with this new challenge".
